I am not a very crafty person, I would like to be, but find my projects often end up looking more like homemade rather than Martha Stewart chic. So, when I find a project that is truly easy then I am on board.

Here are the steps to create a unique kids night with Pixie Dust Decor Fabric.

SUPPLIES

Self adhesive night light. Hollywood lights available at hollywoodlightscrafts.com.

1/4 yard fabric

4 clothes pins

fabric glue

Directions:

Using included night light template, cut fabric to fit front of night light and adhesive surface.

Cut your trim to size. One piece for each side to frame night light.

Using fabric glue, dot a long edges of night light. Adhere trim pieces, use clothes pins to hold trim until it dries.

For a finished look, over lap trim at corners and adhere to the back of the night light.

We all know grocery shopping with a baby can be challenging. With my first born I found myself dreading a trip to the grocery store. It just seemed like so much WORK. As he get older and i got a little wiser, i discovered a couple of tricks that made it less stressful.

My number one tip is to park your car closest to a grocery cart stall, not closest to the store's entrance. Get the cart first, bring it to the car and then load up the baby. Now you are able to situate the baby, your purse and get everything settled. This is much easier then heaving the infant seat or the wiggly toddler to the front door and then trying to get settled.

It also makes loading the groceries into the car easier because you can keep the baby in the cart, drop the cart off and load her right into the car without a long walk.

Once my babies were able to sit up without support, shopping got a whole lot easier. Of course ditching the ridiculously heavy and awkward infant seat was a relief, but even better than that was being able to use a shopping cart cover.

I LOVE mine and have used it for 4 years. It keeps the kids away from the germy cart and it has room to store all sorts of goodies to keep them occupied. There are enough pockets for snacks, toys, your purse, cell phone and more!

I love summer. Being outside with the kids is always fun, but when the days get a little too hot, I start to dread the heat and the kids get cranky. So, I try to find new ways to keep us all cool and still enjoy the summer weather. Here are some of my favorites:

4. Make ice blocks for the back yard pool. Fill different sized plastic containers and ice cube trays with colored water and freeze them overnight. Ice shapes can be removed by dipping the container in warm water; they should just slide out

5. Water balloon or squirt gun fights will keep the kids cool and busy

6. Set up a sprinkler next to a trampoline. This keeps my kids active outside without getting overheated

7. Go the movies during the DAY. This gives you a nice place to cool off during the heat of the day and you can still plan something fun outside when it cools down

8. Go on nature scavenger hunt...after DARK. For most kids this will be a new adventure and they will love being outside and searching with a flash light

9. Bring the outdoors, IN. Use all of the fun things that were collected during the scavenger hunt for art projects like collages and photo flip books

10. Host a backyard campout

If you are the one hosting the campout invite other parents to stick around, after the kids are in bed—and sip summer cocktails on the porch. Stay tuned for my favorite recipe.

FROZEN WATERMELON POPS
1 watermelonCraft sticks(or popcicle sticks)

Foil

Cookie Sheet
Cut you watermelon in half.

Reserve one side for the "pop holder"

Cut thick ring slices (about 1/2 inch thick) of watermelon

Use your cookie cutter and cut out your shape

Insert your craft stick into your watermelon shape, taking care not to poke it through.

Place on you foil lined cookie sheet and freeze for a few hours.

Newborn Necessities: More of what you need

Now that you have handle on all of the baby gear and toys that you will need, let's move on to Feeding, Sleeping, Diapering/Bath time, & Layette.

Clothing: All those adorable matching outfits may need to wait a couple of weeks. When you first bring baby home a soft one piece, also known as a layette, will be the most comfortable thing for your baby to wear. You will want to have several of these on hand, it is amazing how much laundry a little 8 pound baby can require. Caden Lane recently created a a funky layette line, Pitty Shants that is comfortable for babies and stylish too.

Shirts with snaps, also called a onesie, are an ideal top for a new baby. Pants should be elastic so they are easy to get on and off.

Hats are very important no matter what time of year baby is born. You will either need to protect your little one from cold or sun.

Socks are essential to the newborn’s wardrobe and you should have several pairs. You will be amazed how many times you find your baby has lost one sock.

Sleepers come in a zip up style and a snap style. I found the zipper style to be more convenient during diaper changes. Purchase at least four sleepers, in the style you prefer.

Diapering: You will need around 8-12 diapers per day. It is helpful to have a weeks supply purchased ahead of time, but do not over buy on the newborn size, you will be amazed how fast your baby grows. Baby wipes for the house and for the diaper bag are a good idea. A diaper pail will help keep down the odor of those diapers. A changing pad is very useful, it can be used at home or while on the go.

Washing & Grooming:
Baby tub, mild baby wash, wash cloths, hooded towels, brush/comb, nail clippers that are designed for babies, cotton balls & swabs and a thermometer. A rectal thermometer provides the most accurate reading in infants.

When all the shopping is done, the clothes are washed and put away and the teeny tiny diapers are stacked neatly by the changing table you will still wonder, "do i have everything I need?" Yes, you do because all that really matters is your baby has you, to hold and love her.

After the baby arrives and things settle down you will realize you have your own "must have" item that you could not have lived without. For me it was the bouncy seat, using this was often the only way I could grab a 5 minuet shower.

Newborn Necessities: Gear & Toys

The task of shopping for your first baby can be exciting and overwhelming. It is hard to distinguish between the "wants" and the "needs" and extremely hard to stay focused on your first trip to Babies "R" Us.

I have created a list of the baby gear & toys that you and your baby will need for the first couple of months. Stay tuned for future posts on: Feeding, Sleeping, Diapering/Bath time, & Layette. You will have everything you "need": and then you can focus on filling in your "want" items.

BABY GEAR & TOYS

Infant Car Seat: you will need a rear facing infant seat. I am a big fan of the Graco Snug Ride.

Diaper Bag: Invest in one that will last, is easy to clean, and easy to organize. Of course, it does not hurt if it is stylish too. Fleurville offers many hip choices.

Stroller: Make sure and do your research before you make this purchase. Some lifestyles call for a jogging stroller while many parents can get by with a simple umbrella stroller.

Carrier: You will have several options in this category and it is a very personal choice.
Most of my friends swear by the baby Bjorn front carrier, but many love using a sling, especially one with a fun pattern like the ones from Serena & Lily. Personally, I preferred the stroller and the infant carrier inserted in a stroller. As my babies got older, I found I had a lot of use for a frame backpack, but this should really not be on your "need' list as you will not use it right away. If this is your fist baby I suggest waiting until after the baby is born, take baby with you and try on several carries to find what you are comfortable using.

Toys: For the first weeks your baby will enjoy your face the most, but eventually your baby will like some variety. A rattle with bright colors, black white patterned books, and anything with a variety of texture are all good choices.

Activity: A bouncy seat or swing will be the prefect solution to giving your baby a new view of the world. Fisher price makes a handy portable swing that works great for home and travel.

Inspiration for Girl's Nursery

As we mentioned in our last post, Crib Bedding is a great source of inspiration. Options are wide open, you can use a color, a print or pattern or a theme to build your nursery around.

We mentioned several unique choices for boys and now want to give you some ideas for baby girl crib bedding. Personally, for my own baby girl's nursery I chose to build around several fabric patterns. I wanted a shabby chic look, but not too matchy. I used fl orals and, stripes and plaids. I love texture so I added in some soft chenille. I was very excited to be having a girl, so i knew there had to be pink, but I didn't want it to feel overly girly. I added a lot of apple green to offset the pink and love the way it all came together.
